people who eat vegetables picked by migrant farmers that work under inhumane conditions (via jfpll)
I’m a vegetarian for exactly this reason and I buy mostly locally farmed veggies. Although let’s bet honest, even in the middle of nowhere pacific-northwest of the US, there is still a lot of migrant farm work. But this argument that I am a hypocrite because I give up meat for this reason and literally every other aspect of my life is not cruelty or exploitation free is a bunch of crap. I make barely above the poverty line in income, I have to make strategic choices about the things I buy. The largest store in my town is the Wal-Mart, because I choose not to shop there I pay an average of $50-100/mo more in food costs. Of the $300 I have after rent and utilities, I still choose not to go the cheaper route.
so yeah, despite how much effort I might make, I can’t escape the exploitation of capitalism. Does that make me worse than the person who posted this, knowing these issues surrounding both the factory farming of meat and exploitation of labor, yet who still chooses to eat meat?
in short, fuck off. I don’t really post about being a vegetarian much, because I don’t feel the need to judge people who still do. But if your biggest issue with me is that I failed to reject every form of exploitation everywhere…get over yourself and look at your life choices.
